Volunteers bring warmth and joy to our homes. We are so thankful for the friendship, contributions, talents, and zest they bring to Sherbrooke and Central Haven.
Are you a new applicant?
Please note we are experiencing a delay in responding to new applicants. We will start contacting applicants at the beginning of April in the order that applications were received. Thank you for your understanding and your interest in our homes!
What to Expect
When you step into our homes, you’ll notice our welcoming, close-knit community. Volunteering may take you both inside and outside our homes, to sporting events, restaurants, art galleries, and more. Volunteer hours are flexible and depend on the activities you choose to support.
There are many ways to contribute as a volunteer. We welcome volunteer help with recreation programming in our homes, excursions, special events, or one-on-one time with an Elder. Your contributions could include:
- Helping Elders attend social events
- Sharing a good book, crafting, or baking
- Tending the garden and greenhouse
- Providing music or entertainment
- Participating with cribbage, chess, bingo, or curling
- Working at Tumbleweed Gift and Thrift shop
- Or simply spending quality time with Elders

Questions about volunteering
Volunteering in our homes is a great fit for you if you have the ability to show Elders kindness, compassion, patience, love and respect. Your ability to listen and speak with Elders for a prolonged conversation, and develop close, genuine relationships is essential.
As a volunteer, you can help Elders enjoy a full, abundant life. You are an important part of our commitment to provide companionship, dignity, and fun in our homes, and to alleviate loneliness helplessness, and boredom.
We require adult volunteers to provide a satisfactory Criminal Records Check for the Vulnerable Sector. After you apply to volunteer with us, you will meet with Ruth Gosselin, Volunteer Coordinator. She will provide a letter of volunteer intent, to have the Criminal Records Check fee waived.
You are welcome to apply! University of Saskatchewan and Sask Polytechnic students interested in practicum or internship experiences may apply. For more information, contact Christy Norrish, Manager of Recreation, Volunteers, and Community Engagement.
There certainly are opportunities for Residents and family members. These include serving on the Resident and Family Councils at both Sherbrooke and Central Haven, plus other opportunities around our homes.
