Sherbrooke Community Centre

Sherbrooke Community Centre is a warm and welcoming home to 263 residents, 100 Community Day Program participants, 500 staff, and numerous family members, students, volunteers, and pets.

We strive to create an inclusive and vibrant community for every person to enjoy purpose, connection, empowerment, and possibility, regardless of age or changing abilities. We are leading proponents of the innovative Eden Alternative® philosophy advocating for the well-being of the whole person.

Our home’s neighborhood plan helps ensure residents see familiar faces of dedicated staff day to day and build loving relationships. Neighborhoods are diverse and inclusive of people of all abilities.

Sherbrooke is known for its vibrant music and arts scene, recreation and outreach, and intergenerational programs.

Sherbrooke Community Centre is affiliated with the Saskatchewan Health Authority (SHA). Placements in long-term care and fees are determined by the provincial Client Patient Access Services (CPAS). You may contact CPAS directly to inquire about long-term care at (306) 655-4346.

Veterans Village

Veterans Village at Sherbrooke is home for veterans of Canada’s Armed Forces and civilians who can no longer live independently in the community. It is an inclusive community that supports people of all abilities.

The four houses — named Dieppe, Mafeking, Vimy, and Korea — offer rooms for 40 residents.

In Kinsmen and Veterans Villages, each house includes a kitchen, living and dining room, fireplace, laundry, private bedrooms and bathrooms, and private patios with barbecues. Nine to 10 people live in each house, with multi-skilled care partners to provide assistance with daily living.

Residents and their families are encouraged to make their private rooms feel like home with special décor such as a bedside table, lighting, a small fridge, a television and favourite bedding.

Resident-directed care and consistent staffing create beautiful relationships and allow us to know each resident well. The job of all staff is to help residents live a full and abundant life.

Kinsmen and Veterans Villages are examples of the Sherbrooke Village Model in action. Care partners in the houses provide care, light housekeeping and prepare meals. The village creates normal, liveable spaces for residents.

We welcome many individuals who live outside of Sherbrooke into our home for Community Day and Evening Programs. These programs give participants a wonderful opportunity for connection and fun, and they are also an important support we offer for family caregivers.

Sherbrooke Community Day Program

Our Community Day Program (CDP) brings individuals who live outside of Sherbrooke into our home during the day. It gives participants the opportunity to socialize and participate in programs, and provides respite for their family members.

The goal of our caring, dynamic CDP team is to ensure each person has a great day at Sherbrooke. We are thankful for the joy and spontaneity our program brings to everyone in our home.

Our program includes a wide variety of engaging activities: music, gardening, games, baking, and visits with resident cats and dogs. Participants receive lunch and snacks throughout the day. They may take part in daily exercise classes and physiotherapy.

We welcome participants with a wide range of challenges, including physical disabilities, mental health diagnoses, and frailty.

Please note that participants are referred to the Community Day Program through the provincial Client Patient Access Services (CPAS).

To learn more about CDP, contact Sherbrooke CDP Manager Trona Doucette at Trona.Doucette@saskhealthauthority.ca

Sherbrooke Moving On Program (Evenings)

Sherbrooke’s community-based evening program, Moving On, is designed for individuals with acquired brain injuries (ABIs). Participants develop social and independent living skills that help them transition into the community.

The Moving On Program is held on Tuesday and Thursday evenings at Sherbrooke Community Centre.
