Our Sherbrooke community acknowledges that we live, work, and gather on Treaty Six Territory and the homeland of the Métis. This land has sustained many Nations for generations, and we are honoured to be part of its ongoing story. Our journey toward truth and reconciliation is rooted in respect, learning, and relationship-building. We are committed to walking this path with humility, accountability, and care, and to growing our understanding and capacity through education as resources allow.
Sherbrooke’s Indigenous Education and Events Committee
The Indigenous Education and Events Committee, made up of Indigenous and non-Indigenous residents and staff, strives to respond to the Truth and Reconciliation Commission’s Calls to Action. With guidance from Indigenous residents, the committee facilitates opportunities for education, cultural sharing, and reflection, aiming to nurture healing and understanding.
While our efforts are modest due to limited resources, we are deeply committed to growing in knowledge and action. We recognize the harms of colonialism—including Residential Schools, the 60s Scoop, and continuing inequities—and seek to be part of the ongoing work toward healing and justice.
Our vision is to build a community grounded in love, respect, honesty, courage, humility, and truth. We are actively pursuing reconciliation through continued learning, building trust, and supporting the rights and cultural renewal of Indigenous Peoples.
